You never really know how things will turn out when you start a new adventure! Teaching 14 young girls (ranging in age from 7-14) and one mom how to sew seems like it might be a bit of a daunting task. But what an adventure we've had!
Sewing is something I have always loved, ever since I was a little girl and my mom taught me and my friends to sew in Sewing 4H. I've often thought over the years that I would like to teach sewing classes, but I never could have dreamed how much I would enjoy teaching these girls! We have had so much fun together! And more importantly, they have learned a great life skill.

Last week we finished our final project and our final class. It was a bittersweet end to a great adventure!
As I watched these girls finish their final project and saw the confidence they had gained in their new skill, I was in awe! I could not have imagined when this all began that we would have so much fun and that these project would turn out so great!

When we began, only a couple of them had ever used a sewing machine. We started with the basics of how to thread the machine and learned the different parts of the machine and how it worked. We moved on to practicing sewing straight lines, which wasn't an easy feat for some! Pillowcases came next. The excitement on their faces when they completed their first project made what I was doing all worth while to me. Project two was pajamas. They could hardly wait to finish so they could model them. Some of them wore them to bed before we even had them hemmed! And our final project was a darling stuffed owl. They were so eager to finish I could hardly contain them!
I think they've all caught the sewing bug! I hope that they will treasure this new skill and continue to be brave and try new projects!
As for me, I will always treasure the time I have spent teaching a skill that I love. Thanks mom for teaching me how to sew and for starting me on a life long adventure! I'm looking forward to starting new class and can't wait to meet the next group of girls who will fall in love with the art of sewing!
For now, I am off to work on a project of my own! Thanks for stopping by the Front Porch. Come back soon!
