For some members of my family Weber County Fair week is the best week of the summer!
It’s hard to name just one thing that makes the fair great--
the sounds, the smells, people, ribbons, food. The whole package makes the fair a combination of nostalgia and excitement.
I have been attending the fair for as long as I can remember. Growing up, my brothers were involved in FFA (Future Farmers of America). They showed calves at the state fair and participated in judging crops. I was involved in Sewing 4H so I entered my sewing projects, and sometimes canning or baked goods. My grandma entered her quilts until she was well into her 80’s. Now, our children are carrying on the tradition. My brother’s boys enter bucket calves and pigs. Through the years my children have entered everything from photography and walking sticks to rabbits and vegetables they’ve helped grow in our garden. And I have entered quilts. We all look forward to the ribbons earned for our efforts.
For my youngest son there is nothing better to him than scrubbing down a pig to get it cleaned up to show, or just the joy of hanging out with his cousins in the livestock barn for 4 days straight! He spends every waking moment at the fair, and I have to admit that I am not usually far behind.
Although I my love is not necessarily found in the livestock barn, my love is the quilt displays. The vast variety of fabric, design and talent are always amazing! This year’s fair did not disappoint!

Above are some of the many quilts entered this year. Mine is in the the cream one with diamonds in the photo on the left (3rd from the left on top). Blue ribbon! My Friend, Colleen Shuman, also won a blue ribbon with a quilt I quilted for her. Her quilt is the bottom left one in the left photo.
The highlight of my fair week this year was the The Best of Show Quilt in original design, designed and pieced by my friend Beth McKinnon and quilted by me! It is such a beautiful quilt and I am so happy that Beth trusted me to quilt it. I told her it was a "fair winning" quilt! Great job Beth!
