I am so proud of these girls! We just finished our 2nd week of Basic Sewing class and they are doing great! The first week we learned how to work the machine, thread it, and practiced sewing straight lines.
The practice paid off because this week they finished their first project: pillowcases! (I am missing some of my cute girls in these picture, but watch for them next time!)

I have to be honest, I was not exactly sure how this was all going to work! Being my first attempt at actually teaching a sewing class full of 8-13 year old girls (plus 1 mom!), it was a bit overwhelming! But as we've worked out the kinks and figured things, I have loved every minute of it! One of the best moments was when Amber (the mom!) said something about her masters degree and finally sewing a straight line, all in the same sentence! Amber is doing great and she has been such a help--more mom's should sign up with their daughters! :)
Next week we will be learning how to read a pattern and cut it out as we begin our next project: pajama pants. These girls (and the teacher!!!) are so excited!

Hope you don't mind the picture overload but I can't help it--I am so proud of them! I really fought this idea for a long time but now that I'm doing it, I can honestly say that it make me so happy! Being able to share a craft that I love with people who are excited to learn is so rewarding! And I can't express thanks enough to my wonderful husband who is so supportive and didn't even blink when I said "I think I'll buy 8 sewing machines and start teaching classes...."
